Supercell has released the Builder Base update for popular mobile strategy game Clash of Clans, and this could be the closest thing that players will ever get to Clash of Clans 2.
The update was teased by a broken boat that showed up at the edge of the village in Clash of Clans. The boat is now fixed, revealing what lies beyond the waters for players.
'Clash Of Clans' Builders Base Update
The Builder Base update, announced through an official blog post, provides players with an entirely new base in a nighttime map across the sea. The rules here are different though, and the update also introduces a massive list of new content into the strategy game.
After the players upgrade their Town Hall to Level 4, they will be able to fix the broken boat and set sail for the Builder Base, which is powered by different resources. The gold and elixir that players have collected in their home village could not be used in the new base, but gems will cross over to help players set the foundation for their new village.
The Builder Base update, however, is far from simply being a new nighttime map where players can start fresh. It comes with new buildings such as the Push Trap, which propels attackers in a certain direction, the Clock Tower, which speeds up everything that is happening in the Builder Base, and the Crusher, which should not need an explanation on what it does. Old buildings will also gain new abilities, such as the Archer Tower that can switch between long range attacks and fast attacks and the Multi Mortar gaining a multi-barreled attack.
There are also new troops available, namely the Bomber which uses big bombs to damage several buildings simultaneously, and the Cannon Cart, which is a fortification that can be brought to the front line. Old troops will also gain new abilities from upgrades, such as the Sneaky Archers that can cloak themselves for a few seconds and the Boxer Giant that can deal massive damage on their first attack.
There are many more changes detailed in the announcement, but one of the biggest additions with the Builder Base update is the Versus Battle mode. The mode allows players to attack each other, and the player who deals more damage wins.
Will We Ever See 'Clash Of Clans 2'?
Clash of Clans, released almost five years ago, continues to rake in money for developer Supercell, which reported earnings of $1 billion in 2016. Sensor Tower mobile insights head Randy Nelson estimated that Clash of Clans has earned $2.8 billion in total since its launch.
The Builder Base update shows that Supercell knows better than to start from scratch with Clash of Clans 2 when players have invested, and are still investing, into Clash of Clans. The update may attract new players into the fold, but it will better serve current players and possibly attract old players to fire up the video game once more.
