Call of Duty: WWII, which will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Nov. 3, might also be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Call of Duty: WWII, first unveiled in April, will bring the franchise back to its roots of traditional combat, compared to the futuristic themes of its recent entries such as the underperforming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
'Call Of Duty: WWII' On The Nintendo Switch Clues
In Activision's reveal trailer for Call of Duty: WWII, a Nintendo Switch version of the game was not mentioned. However, a pair of clues provides hints that the game could indeed be coming to Nintendo Switch.
The last Call of Duty title to grace a Nintendo console was Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which was released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2012. When Call of Duty: Black Ops III started shipping in 2015, Activision removed the feature that allowed gamers to link their Nintendo accounts to the official Call of Duty website, as the entry to the franchise was not released on the Nintendo Wii U.
However, Activision appears to have revived the feature to link a Nintendo account to the Call of Duty website. There is no reason for the publisher to bring back the feature as no Call of Duty game has been released for a Nintendo console in years, and no title has been announced for the Nintendo Switch.
The re-addition of the feature seemingly hints that a Nintendo Switch version of Call of Duty: WWII is coming. Website Bad Five claimed that, according to an anonymous source, an Activision subsidiary is currently developing a Call of Duty title for the Nintendo Switch, and that the game will be unveiled at E3 2017 in a Nintendo Direct Presentation.
The rumor seems shady at first, but with lead developer Sledgehammer Games and support developer Raven Software working on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of Call of Duty: WWII, another studio would have to work on a Nintendo Switch version of the game.
Beenox, a Quebec-based team which worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, recently tweeted a photo of its members hanging out with Canadian military personnel with a mention of "COD." There has been no public announcement that Beenox is currently working on a Call of Duty project, so fans are treating the tweet as another clue that a Nintendo Switch version of Call of Duty: WWII is coming.
FPS Game On The Nintendo Switch
There is the possibility that an entirely new Call of Duty game is being planned for the Nintendo Switch, or perhaps a watered-down version of Call of Duty: WWII. Nevertheless, the clues do provide strong hints that the franchise is coming to the hybrid console, though in what form is still unknown.
The reveal trailer for Call of Duty: WWII received mostly positive responses, which shows that the franchise is finally headed in the right direction. Its campaign will allow players to take on the role of a soldier in the famed 1st Infantry Division, with the focus not only on the battles but also on the horrors of the war.
First-person shooter fans are likely hoping that the rumors of a version of Call of Duty: WWII for the hybrid console are true, as Bungie already eliminated the chances of Destiny 2 coming to the Nintendo Switch.
