A forthcoming dose of DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops III has been announced today, in a way you'd least expect it to.
The confirmation came from Jason Blundell, co-head of Treyarch Studio during a guest spot on YouTuber JCBackfire's show Thursday, May 4. The announcement, if you could call it that, came in the form of Blundell's shirt, which had Zombie Chronicles on it in red letters under the Black Ops III logo.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops III Zombie Chronicles DLC Confirmed
Zombie Chronicles, for the uninitiated, is a collection of remastered zombies mode maps culled all the way from Black Ops, World at War, and Black Ops II, arriving May 16 for the PlayStation 4. Activision has yet to confirm the dates for other consoles.
The forthcoming DLC is "a love letter from Treyarch" for the Call of Duty community, explained Blundell. But he also thinks it could be a great primer for new fans of the series, too. "I felt like it was more important to give people the beginnings."
What's Included In The Zombie Chronicles DLC?
News of the DLC in question is no surprise, however, especially with a wealth of leaks having made the rounds already. Also, via a decrypted "message of the day," clever Reddit users were able to discover that the Zombie Chronicles DLC will have three maps for World at War, including Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, and Shi No Numa; four maps from Black Ops, including Kino Der Toten, Ascension, Shangri-la, and Moon; and one map from Black Ops II, which is Origins.
Apart from the shirt Blundell was wearing, the co-head also fished out a poster that showed off the Zombies timeline. You can look at that in more detail by visiting Call of Duty's website. Expect a more traditional announcement from Activision soon.
There's still no word on how much the DLC will cost and, again, when it'll come to other consoles apart from the PS4. The studio will provide more details about it during a livestream come May 8, a little more than a week before the DLC itself launches.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops III
Black Ops III is a first-person shooter game, a part of the ultra-popular Call of Duty franchise. Developed by Treyarch and published by Activision, the game was released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015.
It takes place in 2065, in a sort of dystopian world affected by climate change and new technologies. Like some of the previous games before it, Black Ops III follows a group of black ops soldiers, the Winslow Accord.
Upon release, the game received generally favorable reviews, with some critics praising the content, but faulting Treyarch for not moving the whole franchise forward. The game was nominated for both Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer at 2015's Game Awards.
