Square Enix has released the first DLC for Nier: Automata, for both the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game.
The DLC, entitled 3C3C1D119440927 for some reason, includes several new side quests, coliseum challenges, cosmetic items, and audio tracks.
Nier: Automata 3C3C1D119440927 DLC Details
The major draw of the Nier: Automata DLC are the three new coliseums that players will be able to compete in. One of the coliseums will have players try to convince a secretary to let them in to see someone and will also force them to agree to the fourth wall being broken. The enemy that players will face afterward is none other than Yosuke Matsuda, the president and CEO of publisher Square Enix, who will soon be joined in the fight by Kenichi Sato, the president and CEO of developer Platinum Games.
In addition to the coliseums, players will be able to do new side quests that will unlock different kinds of bonuses. These include costumes for 2B, 9S, and A2 from Nier: Replicant, the game's previous Japanese release; records which will add new audio tracks to the jukebox, new equipment and accessories such as hairspray to change the hair color of 2B and A2; masks with unique effects when equipped; and bullets that change how enemy bullets look.
How To Play 'Nier: Automata' DLC
The 3C3C1D119440927 DLC for Nier: Automata can now be downloaded on Steam and the PlayStation Store for $14, but playing it is not as simple as installing the package.
To be able to access the areas where the coliseum battles are being held, players should have completed the C or D ending of Nier: Automata to unlock the Chapter Select feature. However, for some players, the feature may be missing.
Warning: Minor spoilers ahead.
Nier: Automata features 26 endings all in all, one for every letter of the alphabet. Most of the endings are random game over scenes, but the first five, from A to E, are important to uncover the full story of the game.
Endings C and D carry grim overtones, but as the credits roll, players are given the chance to fix things and launch ending E through a final battle.
The final battle is a bullet hell-style shooter that allows players to blast through the game's credits. It is not easy, but players who die will be offered assistance by another Nier: Automata player who has finished the game. The player's ship is now joined by allies made up of the other player's data, making the battle much easier.
At the end, after the final cut scene, players are given the choice of saving their data and continuing normally or allowing their save data to be wiped out in exchange of being able to help another player in the final battle. While trophies will remain, equipment, experience, and access to the Chapter Select feature will vanish.
For players who are looking forward to the 3C3C1D119440927 DLC, hopefully you chose to keep your save file instead of sacrificing it to help another player. For those who had their save data wiped clean, the DLC is just one more reason to play Nier: Automata once again.
