When it comes to Black Friday, people don't necessarily think of comic books. While most people are out looking for big-ticket items, comic books are generally overlooked. That doesn't mean there aren't sales, it's just that, since comics are typically a year-round sort of item, people just don't think of them for Black Friday.
That may change this year, as DC has just announced a pair of massive sales on digital comics for this year's Black Friday. The first sale will focus on one of the most popular characters in history, comic book or not; the second sale will focus on some of DC's best non-superhero books in its entire library.
IGN announced the 'Batman 750' Sale and the Cyber Monday Vertigo sale earlier today, and for fans of comic books, Christmas has come early.
The '750' in the Batman 750 sale isn't just some random marketing title: over 700 of the Dark Knight's best stories will be on sale for just $0.99 an issue. On top of that, the sale actually starts early: the Batman library will go on sale starting Nov. 25 and run through until the end of the month.
Don't worry about quality, either: this isn't DC listing its low-end Batman books for cheap. Some of the best Batman stories in the character's long history are going on sale, like The Long Halloween, The Dark Knight Returns and Gotham by Gaslight. As a bonus, DC is also listing individual storylines within its main Batman series, so fans won't have to go searching through the entire catalog for one specific storyline.
On Cyber Monday, DC's non-superhero brand Vertigo takes over. It may not have the brand recognition of Batman or Superman, but that doesn't mean Vertigo isn't full of great books. Series like Fables, Y: The Last Man and 100 Bullets are all going on sale in graphic novel format for just $4.99. It's great for people looking to dive into less traditional comic books, especially if you're tired of the same old superheroics. It should be noted that, while the Batman 750 sale lasts for almost a week, the Vertigo Cyber Monday sale is limited to that Monday and nothing else, so make sure to get your shopping done quickly.
For those who prefer to keep their comics digital, it really doesn't get better than this. Some of the best Batman stories ever, plus some of Vertigo's best graphic novels for a fraction of the normal cost: if there's one thing for certain, DC certainly knows how to celebrate Black Friday. When the sale starts, the books can be purchased here.
