The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Guide: 5 Must-Have Items And How To Get Them

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild puts players in arduous journey across Hyrule, and sometimes a little help (read: cheats) is necessary to progress.

However, things don't have to be that difficult at all, assuming you have these five must-have items — the Hylian Shield, the Master Sword, a climbing armor set, and an inventory packed with faeries and Mighty Simmered Fruit.

The Hylian Shield

Considering the Hylian Shield's 800 durability points and 90 parry power, you probably won't find a better shield in the game.

Typically, other shields' durability ranges from 10 to 50, and that means they usually break once they fend off a Guardian's laser unless you parry the attack.

Now, there are two ways to get the Hylian Shield. First is to use an amiibo, and the second is to go deep into Hyrule Castle, which we have a guide for.

To be clear, the shield isn't invincible, of course, but when it does break, you can just purchase it back from Granté in Tarry Town.

The Master Sword

The Master Sword is one of the handiest weapons in the game, and that's because it doesn't break. It only runs out of energy and recharge after 10 minutes in real time.

What's more, it doesn't lose steam when used against bosses, and it deals 60 damage instead of the default 30 against enemies affected by Ganon's corruption such as Guardians and dungeon bosses. That's not all either, as it adds the beam attack ability to your moves list.

Before setting out to find the Master Sword, you must have at least collected 10 Heart Containers first, possessing 13 in total — three from the get-go and 10 more additional ones. If you don't have enough Heart Containers, you can respec Stamina Vessels at the statue in Hateno Village. Remember, you can't use temporary hearts to bypass this requirement.

After that, just make your way through the Lost Woods to get to where the Master Sword and the Great Deku Tree are. Once you're there, just pull out the sword, and you'll notice your health draining and stopping at the last quarter of your last heart.

If you don't know how to navigate through the Lost Woods, we have a guide for that, including everything else you need to know about the iconic sword.

The Master Sword is arguably the strongest one-handed weapon in Breath of the Wild, making it one heck of an essential item to have.

It's also worth mentioning that the beam attack can be powered up by Link's green tunic armor sets.

Faeries

This one's pretty straightforward. Faeries still function the same as in other Zelda games — they give you a second chance when you run out of hearts. The best part is, you no longer need empty bottles to get them, and that means they go straight to your pocket.

To nab some faeries, just look for a Fairy Fountain that are found all over Hyrule and start collecting.

Mighty Simmered Fruit

Reminiscent of the Power Seeds, Demondrugs, and whatnot in Monster Hunter, Mighty Simmered Fruit is just one of those items that boosts your attack power and lets you take down big enemies a whole deal easier.

Put simply, all you must do is cook with five Mighty Bananas, and voilà, you got yourself a Mighty Simmered Fruit.

Climbing Armor Set

The climbing armor set lets you, well, climb mountains better. Specifically, it makes you climb faster and use stamina more efficiently.

Now, it consists of the Climber's Bandana, the Climbing Gear, and the Climber's Boots.

As for where to find them, the Climber's Bandana can be found in the Ree Dahee Shrine and Dueling Peaks. The Climbing Gear can be acquired in the Chaas Qeta Shrine and Necluda Sea. Last but not least, the Climber's Boots can be obtained in the Tahno O'ah Shrine or from the Shrine Quest Secrets of the Cedars.

That's it for our list of the five must-have items in Breath of the Wild. Feel free to let us know what you think of it in the comments section below.

Breath of the Wild launched for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U on March 3, and it's up for grabs with a $59.99 price tag.
