Apart from being this year's accolade magnet, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Nintendo's new sprawling open world Zelda adventure, easily eclipsing past Zelda entries in terms of scale alone. There is so much to do in Hyrule: explore, battle enemies, get lost in different villages, busy oneself with shrine puzzles, cook, and so much more.
With such a thick roster of available activities, you probably didn't know that you can own a house in Breath of the Wild. Just because Link is destined to be a hero and protect the goodwill of Hyrule doesn't mean he should eternally gallivant with nary a home or even a simple lodge to retreat to when darkness strikes. Good thing the game allows the user to purchase Link's own home — and even decorate it.
How To Buy A House In 'Breath Of The Wild'
To get a house in Hyrule, you must first travel to West Necluda into Hateno Village.
There, you'll stumble upon construction workers about to demolish a rustic-looking house, which is located near the Myahm Agana, just to the West. This is the house you can own. To do so, talk to the group's foreman, Bolson, the man in pink pants. Tell him that you want to purchase the house.
Bolson will offer it for a steep price — 50,000 rupees. He will, however, bring that price down to just 3,000 under one condition: you also have to give Bolson 30 wood bundles for building materials. Sounds like a pretty good deal.
Getting the wood bundles is easy — there's a nice dense forest just outside of Hateno, but be sure to clear out the coterie of Bokoblins surveying the trees, first.
To get the 3,000 rupees, try to find good items to sell to rack up some cash, including gemstones.
Once purchased, the house is completely yours to own. Granted, the core idea of Breath of the Wild's gameplay is discovery and exploration. But alongside that, the game prides itself as something that requires no clear-cut trajectory to finish; you're completely left to your own devices and it's up to you how you want to beat the game. Owning a house is part of that freedom.
Inside, the house is empty, except for a Weapon Mount Link can place any weapons in. To do this, equip the desired weapon, then interact with the mount.
House Upgrades In 'Breath Of The Wild'
If simply buying a house isn't enough, Link can lavish it further with upgrades. For the series of home improvements, Hudson will ask for 5,000 rupees. But again, he'll bring the price down to 100 rupees for each upgrade. You can add the following upgrades for your home:
• Add a door
• Add a bed
• Add three Bow Mounts
• Add two more Weapon Mounts
• Add three Shield Mounts
• Add lights
• Add a flowerbed and trees
• Add a sign with Link's name on it
The best part about this is that if you're willing to spend 1,400 rupees required to purchase all available house upgrades, Bolson will be so thrilled that he'll even add more stuff — such as decor and furniture — gratis!
