The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a good game, to say the least. It is an open-world game (first in the Legend of Zelda franchise) that lets you do a lot of things: explore the different terrains, cook food, beat monsters, discover secret items and weapons, surf on a shield, ride a horse, and beat more monsters.
What it doesn't allow you to do, however, is create a "New Game" after you have finished the game and decided you want to start fresh.
Wait, What — No New Game Mode?
Well, there is. Technically you can create a new game. However, it will overwrite your existing one. Yes, it will wipe your hundreds of hours of playthrough (and countless memories) to start the slate as clean as Lake Hylia.
However, fret not. There's a way to go around this and it is very simple (although it can be cumbersome if done many times). All you need to do is to create a new User Profile. The Nintendo Switch (and the Wii U) allows multiple user profiles in one console (eight profiles for Switch, and 12 for Wii U).
To create a new profile, go to System Settings located in the Home page. Then scroll down and select Users. Finally, select Add User.
Afterwards, choose the newly created user profile. Fire up your Breath of the Wild game then create a new game. Voila, a fresh save file for fresh adventures for Link in the vast world of Hyrule!
What Happens Next?
The limitation of one-save-file-per-one-profile may pose a minor hassle for those sharing one Nintendo Switch but wants to play separate Breath of the Wild playthrough. Especially now that recently, Nintendo announced the first expansion for the game which naturally, will add more areas to explore, items to find, and other downloadable contents.
In the first DLC pack, there will be a "Hard Mode" which means a new way of playing the game. It is not known yet if this mode can be enabled in your current playthrough (which many players will most likely do). Or if you need to start a new game — again, start a new user profile — to play the game with more challenge.
Speaking of DLC, the first DLC Pack coming this summer will also contain a "Cave of Trials" challenge and a new feature for the in-game map. The second DLC Pack (Holiday 2017) will add a new dungeon, an original story and more challenges.
Additionally, those who bought the Expansion Pass that costs $19.99 will get three bonuses inside three treasure chests in the Great Plateau area in-game. These chests contain a shirt with the Nintendo Switch logo on it, and the other two will "deliver useful items."
