Ever since Gun Media reached the crowdfunding goal for the Kickstarter campaign of Friday the 13th: The Game in November 2015, fans of the slasher film franchise have been looking forward to the return of Jason to video games.
At PAX East 2017, a new trailer for the upcoming multiplayer horror game was revealed, showing off a bit more of what players can expect from Friday the 13th: The Game.
New 'Friday the 13th: The Game' Trailer
It should be of no surprise that the new trailer for Friday the 13th: The Game shows off various ways on how Jason brutally kills his victims.
The video, which lasts just over four minutes, shows various locations around Camp Crystal Lake, which would serve as the backdrop for Jason's rampage.
While there are relatively tame ways that Jason kills his victims, including throwing them out of a window, drowning them in a toilet, and dropping them on their heads, there are, of course, more brutal ways that he does so. These include swinging an axe to hack at and decapitate a person, striking a pickaxe into the face, punching a hole right through the victim's body, ripping off the target's jaw, and driving the person's head through a spear.
The blood splatter on the camera that follows each killing is a great reminder of the B-movie roots of the game, which is made even more prominent through the retro-looking introduction of the trailer and the new song "Killer" by Crazy Lixx.
The Different Looks Of Jason
In addition to the bloody finishes, another thing that can be taken away from the trailer is the different looks of Jason being shown off.
The trailer offers players their first glimpse at the models of Jason taken from the eighth and ninth movies of the franchise, Jason Takes Manhattan and Jason Goes to Hell.
Gun Media likewise revealed that horror icon Tom Savini also created a new version of Jason that is exclusive for Friday the 13th: The Game. The new model is the first one created by Savini for Jason since the fourth movie, The Final Chapter, and the first new look for Jason since the reboot of the franchise in 2009.
Preorder 'Friday the 13th: The Game'
The new game trailer ends with an invitation for players to preorder the game, which will be released this year for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
There is still no specific release date yet for Friday the 13th: The Game. It was supposed to be released last year, but after Gun Media hinted that a single-player mode could be coming to the initially multiplayer-only title, the developer decided to delay the game's launch to be able to incorporate the additional mode.
It was previously said that the multiplayer aspect of the horror game will be released by spring, with the single-player campaign to follow in the summer.
In Friday the 13th: The Game, players can take on the role of Jason as he goes on his rampage or as the camp counselors trying to escape the killer's murderous intentions.
