Friday the 13th: The Game raised more than $800,000 on Kickstarter last year thanks to its strong immortal serial killer vs. helpless teenager premise, but fans haven't heard much about the game in the months since then.
That finally changed over the weekend at PAX East, where the developers dropped two new teasers for the game that should give horror fans some confidence that the project is in the right hands.
The first is a brief teaser for the game's hide-and-seek gameplay mechanic. Friday the 13th: The Game will be a multiplayer title, in which one team of teenagers must run from an invincible and player-controlled Jason. This video gives a good idea of what that gameplay will look like in action, as a girl attempts to hide in a locked room, only to be found and meet a grisly end at the blade of Jason's axe.
A second video released for the game reveals one of the environments players will get to explore as they run for their lives. Fans of the film franchise should recognize it, as it's the Higgins Haven location from Friday the 13th Part 3. The video gets gory toward the end, as Jason executes a helpless girl by repeatedly bashing her head into a door. Ouch.
Keep in mind that none of the above is actual footage of the game being played, but it was put together using the game's actual engine and visuals. That means fans can expect the game to at least be this good in its final form, though it seems reasonable to assume the game will look even better once everything is complete. After all, the gameplay footage being shown below is still in alpha, which means the developers still have a ways to go until they have a final build of the game ready. All in all, it looks like fans of horror and horror games will want to keep this one on their radar. You can watch both hide-and-seek and Higgins Haven teasers below.
Friday the 13th: The Game is set for a fall 2016 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
