First Look: MMORPG ‘Ashes of Creation’ Pre-Alpha Trailer Released

For players looking for an MMORPG that isn't like the thousand others, they ought to wait for Ashes of Creation.

Game developer Intrepid Studios revealed a new trailer of its upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game, or MMORPG. The trailer showcases a pre-alpha footage of the game. It features one of the playable characters, a Mage, exploring dungeons, battling monsters and of course, casting spells. The game is powered by Unreal Engine.

Ashes of Creation aims to breathe fresh air into the saturated and stale atmosphere of current MMO games. The game is coming to PC but has no release date yet, but it is inviting players to join the closed alpha and beta tests.

Build, Destroy, Rebuild, Rinse, Repeat

Intrepid Studios wants to bring back everything that makes online games "fantastic." However, it aspires to inject fresh ideas and make the world of MMOs more dynamic and livelier. Hence, Ashes of Creation.

According to its official press release, Ashes of Creation brings players to a "fallen fantasy world untouched by civilization for thousands of years."

Ashes of Creation offers a unique take on the MMO gameplay and experience. As the title implies, the game's world is dynamic and actively changing based on the player's actions. Each player can create stuff and like the circle of nature, they can destroy what they made and recreate a new one. Thus, the world lives and dies with the players, its cities rise and fall with its politics, its history gets written by them.

"Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay," reads the game's description.

Seasons - They Are A'Changing

The world of Ashes of Creation changes not only because of the direct actions of the players. By itself, it experiences regular seasonal cycles. Yellow summer will give way to the orange of autumn, which soon enough will get swallowed by the whiteness of harsh winter. Ultimately, the lifeless snow will bring forth the green of spring.

These seasonal changes are not only cosmetic changes, as these "will alter the very nature of the environment" in terms of gameplay, too. Thus, heavy snowfall can make roads unpassable. Spring will bring out the creatures that are otherwise absent during a different season. And certain items, plants and other stuff can only be acquired during summer or fall months.

"I want these cycles to affect a wide array of mechanics, including NPC generation, boss content, dungeons, drop tables, Node progression, combat, skill use, gatherables, trade routes, NPC appearances, and weather," said Steven Sharif, Intrepid Studios' creative director.

Join The Caravan

Another main feature of Ashes of Creation is the Caravan system. Caravans enable the movement, distribution, and transfer of goods. Thus, the game's economy will depend on this system.

However, the shine of gold attracts the eye of everyone. Players must then defend the caravans as they move along their trade routes. These caravans create a static PVP zone, which means players can attack or defend in order to protect or destroy the caravans' bountiful loot.
