The OnePlus 3T is a popular device among technology enthusiasts with state-of-the-art specs and features. However, a rumor suggests that the company's next-gen device would perhaps be known as the OnePlus 5.
A previous report stated that a leaked render of the OnePlus 5 revealed some of its supposed specs.
Now, publication Korean Portal has reported that the OnePlus 5 would come with a dual-curved edge display, similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.
Why The Name OnePlus 5?
It may come as a surprise to some that after the OnePlus 3T, the company is choosing to skip OnePlus 4 and will go straight to OnePlus 5. However, this may be in keeping with Chinese traditions, where number 4 is considered bad luck and is associated with death.
What The Latest Rumors Suggest
If the latest rumors are to be believed, then it is likely that the OnePlus 5 may come with dual-curved edge display. The handset may be powered either by a Snapdragon 830 or Snapdragon 835 SoC.
Reports also surmise that one variant of the device may house a whopping 256 GB internal storage memory, and either 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Since the OnePlus 3T currently offers 6 GB of RAM, many believe that the OnePlus 5 may push the standard and come with 8 GB of RAM.
It is likely that OnePlus would launch different variants of the phone with differing RAM and memory along with other specs. So, a lower variant with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage is also expected.
A 23MP primary and 16MP secondary camera are also expected to be housed in the device per the latest reports. The smartphone is expected to boast a 4000 mAh battery.
Other speculated features of the OnePlus 5 include an USB Type-C port and support for fast charging, while the body of the smaprtphone may be a ceramic one just like the Xiaomi Mi Max.
When To Expect The OnePlus 5
It is a well-known fact that Samsung has monopolized the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset till the time the company releases the Galaxy S8 into the market. Most other companies have had to either go with the Snapdragon 821 processor, or delay their products for some time due to Samsung calling dibs on the chipset.
The same may be true for the OnePlus 5. The company may wait till Samsung's product is released so that it can equip the OnePlus 5 with the Snapdragon 835. So, you can expect the phone to be launched sometime later in 2017.
