All hail The Joker: Jared Leto rumored to be eyeing role for upcoming 'Suicide Squad' film

Warner Bros. and DC are reported to be circling a new Joker for the big screen. Apparently, Jared Leto is the man, and the plan is to make him a big part of the 2016 Suicide Squad movie adaptation.

This is the first time in a long while we've seen DC fans coming together and saying that they are OK with this possible casting choice, though, not everyone is keen on seeing The Joker back in play so early. Others would rather see him in a Batman film.

The Wrap reports Jared Leto was not Warner Bros' first choice to play the character, but either Benedict Cumberbatch or Ryan Gosling. We all know that Benedict Cumberbatch chose to join Marvel as Dr. Strange, so he is out of the question. When it comes down to Gosling, reports are saying that he turned down the role because he had to sign to a multiple picture deal.

This leaves Jared Leto the last man standing and becoming the third Joker to grace the big screen since the death of Heath Ledger, the greatest Joker of all time.

Some fans are wondering if The Joker would actually be part of the Suicide Squad itself. We can't really say for sure, but for some reason, we doubt that is the case. The Suicide Squad is a team brought into place by Amanda Waller, and we doubt she would be crazy enough to enlist The Joker.

We all know what the man is like; he's unpredictable, can't be trusted in any way possible, and would put the team in grave danger in the field. The Joker is not like other criminals, so Waller can't just merely threaten to kill him because it won't work.

For him to join the squad and keep himself under control, Waller would have to offer The Joker something he cannot refuse, and we can't begin to fathom what that could be, unless it's Harley Quinn.

Apart from Jared Leto, we understand that Warner Bros. is also circling Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie for roles in the film. Jesse Eisenberg is also rumored to reprise his role as Lex Luthor.
