Freedom has a price, indeed.
Humble Bundle has raised $6.43 million for its "Humble Freedom Bundle." The one-week offer is Humble's proactive response to the controversial travel ban by U.S. President Donald Trump. All sales will go directly to three supported organizations: American Civil Liberty Union, International Rescue Committee and Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières.
The bundle contains up to $600 worth of games and e-books. The bundle's cause drew support from many critically acclaimed independent games like Stardew Valley, The Witness and World of Goo, to name a few.
A Bundle Of Freedom-Loving Games
On Feb. 20, Humble proudly tweeted that Humble Freedom Bundle has earned $6.43 million during its week-long run. The amount does not include the $300,000 that Humble pledged for the cause. Earlier, in just 12 hours within the launch, the bundle had already raised $2 million for the cause.
"Thanks for making it happen," Humble tweeted to its 472,000-plus followers.
The bundle initially garnered support from 40 games. But 16 more games were added, making the bundle one of the biggest that Humble has offered.
One of the most prominent titles to pledge its support was The Witness, the critically acclaimed puzzle adventure game that earned praises for its gameplay, game design and art direction. Another title is The Stanley Parable, a self-aware "walking simulator" that broke the fourth wall.
Other titles include: brutally difficult platformer Super Meat Boy, farm simulator Stardew Valley, absurd Octodad: Dadliest Catch, reflex puzzler Super Hexagon, transport sim Mini Metro, spy-themed game Invisible Inc., underwater adventure Song of the Deep, puzzle game World of Goo, adventure Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, shooter Nuclear Throne, 2D puzzler VVVVV, action Overgrowth, and many more.
Bundle For A Cause
With its $6.43 million sales, the Humble Freedom Bundle is the second bestselling bundle after "Humble Origin Bundle." However, the Freedom Bundle drew more titles supporting it because of the pressing issue it addressed.
"We humbly remember that the United States is a nation of immigrants, and we proudly stand with developers, authors, and charities that champion liberty and justice for all."
This is how Humble Bundle opened its offer. This is clearly in response to the controversial and discriminatory travel ban that President Trump issued earlier in the year. The executive order drew strong condemnation from all sectors in the United States, including the gaming industry.
The Humble Freedom Bundle pledged to divvy up the sales to three organizations: civic rights group ACLU; social welfare group IRC; and humanitarian organization MSF.
