Video game seller Humble Bundle is moving up from its humble beginnings.
The popular digital store for gamers is now an aspiring video game publisher. Humble Bundle announced its expansion to video game publishing by launching a new multiplatform publishing and funding initiative.
A video game publisher is a company that does production, marketing and advertising of video games. Some of the big names in the industry are Sony Interactive Entertainment, Nintendo and Activision Blizzard.
"The Next Logical Step"
Speaking on the company's blog, Publishing Lead John Polson said the move to publishing is the company's "next logical step" in the services Humble Bundle wants to offer to its partner developers.
"Since Humble's launch in 2010, we have earned the trust of over 10 million customers across our products," Polson said.
Polson also said that the games will carry a "seal of quality and curation that fans have come to expect."
"For each aspect of publishing, developers can choose the services they need, making Humble Bundle a truly modern and adaptable publisher," he added.
Seven Games At Launch
Humble Bundle offers an array of games across multiple platforms. It is not a surprise that the lineup of games the company wants to launch also spans different genres and platforms.
The games are listed below (with Humble Bundle's description):
>A Hat in Time — 3D platformer with a hat-swapping spin
HackyZack — A puzzle-platformer game with sticker-collecting
Ikenfell — A "heartwarming" turn-based RPG about a school of magic and its students
Keyboard Sports — A "cheeky" adventure with Master QWERTY using the keyboard
No Truce with the Furies — An isometric RPG that blends "cop show antics" with "fantastic realism"
Scorn — "Gripping" first-person survival set in a hellish universe
Staxel — Grow a farm, meet the villagers, and join friends online
Humble Bundle also posted on its blog its desire to collaborate with the gaming community. It said it will be evaluating games for publication during PAX East and the Game Developers Conference event. They invite the developers to fill out this form if they want to present a game to Humble Bundle.
Humble Beginnings
Humble Bundle started in 2010 as a store that offers a limited-time collection of games called "humble bundles." The price will be determined by the purchaser. A portion of the price will go to charities.
Humble Bundle's initial bundles were mostly indie games with multi-platform support. Its support also expands to charities such as The American Red Cross, Child's Play, and Wikimedia Foundation together with about 50 others.
