An investigation by French authorities is now underway after yet another terror attack, this time at the world famous Louvre Museum in Paris. Seeing the spate of terrorist attacks in the country over the past few years, Paris soldiers were prepared to take action and were able to prevent further injuries. In light of these events, U.S. President Donald Trump was quick to respond to the incident via a tweet.
Morning Attack At Louvre Museum
The ordeal began early in the day just outside the Louvre Museum when a man attempted to attack the soldiers and guards at the Carrousel du Louvre, the underground plaza connected to the Louvre Museum.
According to Paris police, the man was wielding a machete when he made the attack, shouting "Allahu akbar" as he did. The attacked soldier fired five shots in response.
Hundreds of visitors to the world famous museum were placed on lockdown inside the facility and were only released in small groups after the police had checked if anyone else was involved in the attack.
Meanwhile, France President Francois Hollande praised the soldiers' quick response to the attack.
France is currently under a state of emergency after the Paris attacks in 2015, where 130 individuals were killed, and the Bastille Day attack in July 2016 that killed 86 people when the attacker plowed through a celebrating crowd.
The Attacker
Though authorities refuse to name the attacker, they have described him as a 29-year-old Egyptian who was a resident of the United Arab Emirates. He has been a holder of a tourist visa since November and arrived in Paris on Jan. 26 when he bought the two military machetes.
He was said to be wearing a backpack when the attack occurred, though upon inspection, no second weapon or explosives were found. Latest reports state that the attacker is currently battling for his life in a Paris hospital.
Another individual was arrested but authorities are still unsure of the person's connection to the attack.
Trump's Response To Louvre Attack
President Trump responded to the attack via Twitter, urging Americans to "get smart." This may be in relation to his widely criticized executive order that banned refugees and citizens of seven Muslim countries from entering the U.S. for a certain number of days.
Though the administration insists that the immigration ban is not about religion but about security, it still did not stop many from criticizing it. The president's tweet appears to be a response to critics of the EO.
