While Driveclub is still not opening its doors to PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) members, Sony announced a solid collection of games for its November offerings of Instant Game Collection (IGC), plus a peek at what subscribers can expect to receive as the year comes to a close.
The November additions to PS Plus's IGC include The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Escape Plan, Frozen Synapse Prime, The Hungry Horde, Luftrausers and SteamWorld Dig.
Rebirth, a remake of 2011's The Binding of Isaac, celebrates its launch by joining the IGC. Like the orginal, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth sees the game's protagonist, Isaac, journey through the catacombs of his house after his mother hears voices telling her to sacrifice him as a show of devotion to her religion.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth follows a formula similar to a roguelike dungeon crawler. Each room in the vast basement is filled with monsters, which Isaac must defeat in order to progress. Originally a PC game written in Flash, the remake of The Binding of Isaac was designed to place the title in a new engine.
The Escape Plan is a puzzle game that bears an aesthetic similar to The Bridge and Limbo. Players guide two characters out of rooms rigged with traps.
Frozen Synapse Prime creates a cyberpunk world, in which strike squads take on each other under the chess-like rules of a standard, turn-based strategy game. The specifics of maps vary each round, making it more difficult for players to craft a concrete strategy beforehand.
The Hungry Horde puts players in control of a mob of zombies, tasking players to expand the ranks of the undead by targeting the living. The puzzle game is moderated by a clock, which counts down the time left until the government steps in and deals with the undead horde.
Luftrausers places gamers in the cockpit of fighter plane. Painted with a sepia tint, the games deliver classic arcade-style shooting with a modern twist on the dogfighting.
SteamWorld Dig rounds out November's IGC package with its platforming gameplay, akin to the likes of Terraria and Spelunky. The game focuses on prospecting, platforming and paydays back at the shops on the surface.
For December, Matthew Harper, senior manager of PlayStation Digital Platforms, says PS Plus subscribers can expect Injustice: Gods Among Us, Ultimate Edition and Secret Ponchos to be added to the IGC. While Sony likely wants to reward customers who suffered through the recent PlayStation Network update, the long-awaited Driveclub won't be available until at least February 2015.
"We want you to know that we're committed to providing Driveclub PS Plus Edition to members when it's ready, and the Evolution team is working hard to make it a reality," states Harper.
