'Resident Evil 7': Theories On The Ending After 10 Hours Of Gameplay

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is one of the most anticipated games in 2017 and, since the game reportedly focused back on recreating the horror of the first games in the franchise which earned many fans, it is no longer a surprise that many gamers have already finished almost 10 hours of gameplay so soon after its release on Jan. 24.

The game has two possible endings both good and "bad" but, before we continue discussing, readers should know that there are SPOILERS ahead so turn back now if you don't want to spoil the horrific fun just yet. We recommend just going over the gameplay first if you're really just itching to know how to survive the game, especially if you're a beginner.

Now is your last chance to close the window before the story gets spoiled. No? Fantastic! Let's go.

Story

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard begins with Ethan Winters suddenly receiving an email from Mia, his wife who has been missing for three years. The message is simple and definitely a good, albeit obvious, start to a horrific adventure: "Come get me." Also a part of a message is an address somewhere in Louisiana.

When he arrives at the address where a decrepit mansion stands, Ethan begins his search for his missing wife but gets knocked out, only to wake up later on surrounded by creepy people. This is where the true horror adventure begins: with Ethan trying to escape from the mysterious, deranged, and downright creepy Baker Family as he continues to search for Mia.

Ethan finds Mia along the way, of course, but not everything will turn out well. The ending players will see depends on a major decision Ethan must make and it all has to do with his wife.

Dilemma

At one point in the game, Ethan will get his hands on a serum which both Mia and Zoe Baker need. Unfortunately, Ethan only has one serum so it is up to the player to decide which one to save. This decision will also determine which ending the player will see.

Mia gets the serum

If the player decides to save his wife, Mia will survive the nightmare and reach the ending where a helicopter would arrive to take both of them. She will also receive medical assistance.

Zoe gets the serum

If Ethan decides to give the younger Zoe the serum, Mia will almost reach the end... only to be stabbed with a crowbar and die. So, basically, Ethan will escape the plantation alone and he most likely forgot who he went there to save somewhere along the nightmare.

The Explanation

During the course of the game, players will encounter a creepy little girl called Eveline who turns out to be an Umbrella Corporation E-Series experiment. Eveline is a bio-weapon that is supposed to go undercover and one of her compulsions is to create a family unit to create a solid cover and her chosen "family" will not be able to resist her commands. So, basically, this little girl is the reason why the Baker Family turned into the cannibalistic monsters they are.

The reason Eveline has terrorized the plantation is because Ethan's wife, Mia, was part of the crew transporting the little girl three years earlier and she was a survivor when the ship crashed in Louisiana.

Here's another twist. Since Eveline is a bio-weapon, she ages differently and, as it turns out, she is the old woman sitting on a rocking chair at different points during gameplay.

The most intriguing part of the game is actually the ending because it points back to the classic Resident Evil games. Ethan will receive a special weapon to defeat another one of Eveline's forms: a huge tentacle monster, from a helicopter passing by. Once the monster is defeated, a seemingly new character is introduced. Chris Redfield returns to the game aboard the revamped Umbrella Corporation helicopter and, while it is weird that Redfield would work with the evil corporation, hints at the possibility that the corporation has a new goal that aligns with Redfield's.

The question is: is the Umbrella Corporation now slightly less evil since it also changed its logo or has Chris Redfield transformed into a questionable character. Is it even the Chris Redfield we know from the previous games or some sort of clone or impostor?

Revelations could be made when the first DLC is released on Feb. 14.
