The year has been a great one for video games, with 2016 bringing us surefire classics such as Overwatch, Final Fantasy XV, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Battlefield 1, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and many more.
As the year comes to a close, gamers are now looking forward to the titles that will be added to their collections in 2017. Here are some of the most anticipated games that will be released next year.
God of War
The next God of War game will focus on Norse mythology, deviating from the Greek theme that was used in the previous games in the franchise. It is expected to be released in mid-2017 for the PlayStation 4.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Developers said that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will herald the return of zombies to the franchise, bringing the game back to its roots and exciting fans everywhere. It is set to be released on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January 2017.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
It is said that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not be among the launch titles of the upcoming Nintendo Switch hybrid console when it is released in March 2017. No specific release date has been mentioned for the game, but a mid-2017 to fall 2017 launch looks likely.
Persona 5
The United States launch of the next installment in the Persona franchise has been delayed to April 2017, but gamers are still looking forward to finally meeting the Phantom Thieves of Hearts of Persona 5 once it is released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
With a launch date of March 2017 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Mass Effect: Andromeda will see players leave the confines of the Milky Way for a new adventure in the Andromeda galaxy.
Prey
Upcoming Prey is the reimagining of the 2006 game of the same name, and it will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One some time in 2017.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
Coming to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in late 2017, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite continues the crossover fighting game franchise, albeit with X-men characters said to be sitting this one out.
LEGO Worlds
To be released for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Feb. 21, LEGO Worlds will look to challenge Minecraft as the premier block building game.
For Honor
Players will take on the role of a Knight, Samurai or Viking as the three factions battle it out against one another in For Honor, which is expected to be released in February 2017 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Red Dead Redemption 2
The sequel to Red Dead Redemption will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in fall 2017. Details regarding Red Dead Redemption 2, however, has so far been scarce.
