Microsoft has outed a new firmware for its Surface Studio and Surface Pro 4 gadgets. These firmware updates look to improve the stability and performance of the devices.
The January firmware update for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Studio is rolling out now and brings in its folds a slew of enhancements.
What's New?
Talking about the Surface Studio, the update enables the gadget to wake up from sleep mode quickly and improves video calling and ethernet facilities. The device is now more compatible with games and speech recognition.
The Surface Pro 4 tablet has also got significant updates. The firmware update improves battery life, keyboard stability and storage performance of the device. The tablet will feature the Intel Precise Touch, version 1.2.0.78 and a new Surface UEFI version (106.1414.768.0) post the update.
The speech recognition software is also enhanced due to a revamped UEFI update. The update also improves the reliability of Skype and other video calling facilities.
The Surface Pro 4, on the other hand, gets improved keyboard stability, and a Precise Touch option, where the touch is disabled if the phone cover is shut. It also gets an improved battery life during sleep and the storage performance is drastically improved. The complete list of the firmware updates can be accessed at Microsoft's technical blog.
As reported earlier by Tech Times, Microsoft is expected to launch its Surface 5 Pro tablet soon and it will be interesting to see whether these updates are present in the next-gen variant as well.
Know Your Gadgets
For the uninitiated, the Surface Studio is a high-end desktop with a 28-inch PixelSense Display LED screen and a 10-point multi-touch support. A stylus is also offered to make your work seamless and fluent. The storage options include a 64 GB hard disk with a 1 TB HDD, 128 GB hard disk with a 1 TB HDD.
The Surface Pro 4 tablet has a 12.3-inch screen with PixelSense display. It comes in 4 GB of RAM, 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of RAM variants and has a TPM chip for security.
Both these devices run on the Windows 10 Pro and are the first among other Microsoft products to receive such firmware upgrades.
How Can You Get The Update?
The firmware update can be manually downloaded and applied, if it hasn't been installed through the Windows Update service.
The updates can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center now. The update for the Surface Studio is available from the Surface Studio Drivers and Firmware Page and is in the MSI format.
The update for the Surface Pro 4 can be downloaded in both ZIP and MSI formats via the Surface Pro 4 Drivers and Firmware Page.
