Nintendo is giving a chance for players to try out its upcoming hybrid console, the Switch, before it's officially released in March.
Nintendo will hit the the road from Jan. 13 to March 5, 2017, lugging its flagship console across cities in North America. In its itinerary are San Francisco, New York, and Toronto up north.
The Nintendo Switch Preview Tour
The first two days in each stop will be specially allocated for the media, while the third and last day will be open to the public, albeit a very limited one at that.
A number of My Nintendo members were reported to have already been pinged by Nintendo via email that they're welcome to come to the event once it hits their respective cities. For now, details about the tour are very thin, and there's no assurance as to what Switch titles are going to be shown off by the company during the tour, but those who received invites were advised to wait for a follow-up notification from Eventbrite.
The Nintendo Switch preview tour kicks off Jan 13, a day after the company unveils essential metrics it's been holding about the console on a forthcoming event in Tokyo.
From Jan. 13 to 15, the tour will hit New York, then Toronto from Jan. 27 to 29. It will then be at Washington on Feb. 10 to 12, at Chicago on Feb. 17 to 19, and at San Francisco on Feb. 24 to 26. The tour hits its last stop at Los Angeles on March 3 to 5.
PAX South And East And SXSW Events
For those who are unfortunately far from any of the cities included in Nintendo's Switch preview tour road map, there's still a way to try out the console before it hits shelves. The company has promised that it will attend PAX South and PAX East, which are in San Antonio and Boston, respectively. Additionally, the console will also make an appearance at the South by Southwest festival in Austin to let attendees get ahold of the Switch's launch titles, according to Polygon.
It is still undetermined when exactly the Switch will launch in March, but that, along with its launch games, price, and other technical details, will cease to be a mystery once Nintendo's Jan. 12 event for the Switch finally happens.
Other Nintendo Switch News And Rumors
Switch rumors continue pop up, especially now that the event is fast approaching. A recent report from Eurogamer suggested that the switch will be capable of emulating GameCube titles by virtue of its virtual console platform, adding that three popular titles have already been successfully transcoded for the system. These games are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
A trove of patent filings for the Switch has also been recently unleashed online, depicting a number of illustrations that semi-confirm details about the console such as a USB-C port and an infrared sensor in the right Joy-Con controller. Also within the patent images is what's purportedly a virtual reality headset setup for the console, and different Joy-Con configurations.
The Nintendo Switch is Nintendo's forthcoming flagship console revealed in October. It follows the Wii U, which has struggled to remain afloat in the home console market.
