In The Tonight Show, comedian host Jimmy Fallon played upcoming Nintendo games Super Mario Run for mobile devices and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
Gamers, eat your hearts out.
Super Mario Run Preview On The Tonight Show
Reggie Fils-Aimé, the president of Nintendo of America, appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show, with legendary Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto also present in the audience.
It was first reported that Fils-Aimé would be showing off Super Mario Run, which will be the first Super Mario game that will be released for non-Nintendo hardware.
Fallon played a level on the upcoming mobile title, which will be free to download for both iOS and Android devices. To unlock the entire Super Mario Run experience though, players will need to pay a one-time fee of $9.99.
The game will be made available first for the iOS by the middle of December, with an Android release expected next year.
Nintendo Switch Makes An Appearance With The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
The appearance of the Nintendo Switch, the successor to the Nintendo Wii U, came as a surprise, with Nintendo demonstrating the hybrid console in public for the first time on The Tonight Show.
Fils-Aimé showed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild running on the Nintendo Switch and shown on the big screen, and then took the device out of its dock so that Fallon could continue playing the game while the hybrid console was in portable mode.
However, it should be noted that the transition from playing on the big screen into playing on the Nintendo Switch's own display was covered up. Fils-Aimé had to press something on the device after taking it out of the dock so that Fallon could continue the gameplay, which is different from what was seen in the hybrid console's announcement trailer where the transition appeared to be seamless.
The choice of featuring The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the demonstration of the Nintendo Switch is interesting too, given the rumors that the game will not be ready in time for the March 2017 launch of the hybrid console.
The Future Of Nintendo
Super Mario Run and the Nintendo Switch are two upcoming products that will largely dictate how Nintendo will evolve over the coming years as the video game industry continues to become more competitive.
Super Mario Run is all set to launch next week for the iOS, while more details regarding the Nintendo Switch will be officially unveiled in the Nintendo Switch Presentation on Jan. 12.
