Lady Gaga has just released a brand-new music video for the track "Million Reasons" from her recently released album Joanne. The clip for the emotional tune has already racked up millions of views and is currently one of the top trending videos on YouTube.
Gaga's "Million Reasons" Promotional Push
The release of a video for "Million Reasons" follows the singer's performances of the song on a wide range of media outlets, including Saturday Night Live, The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM Radio, her segment of James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke," and the recently televised Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which also featured performances by other A-list pop stars Bruno Mars and The Weeknd.
Gaga has been searching for a signature song to represent the album Joanne, which has performed respectably but has not managed to generate a breakout hit, as all her other albums have achieved — "Poker Face" from The Fame, "Bad Romance" from The Fame Monster, "Born This Way" from Born This Way, and "Applause" from Artpop. The first single from Joanne, "Perfect Illusion," did not live up to expectations and was a relative flop on the U.S. pop charts.
"Million Reasons" Video And Meaning
Gaga is hoping that the emotional ballad from Joanne reverses her fortunes, and the clip for the song features the singer in the same desert where her "Perfect Illusion" video took place, this time apparently suffering from a breakdown and being rescued by her friends. As we see the recovered singer in her dressing room being made up for a performance, she still appears depressed but seems to regain hope when she receives a very special gift from her sister. The storyline is interspersed with clips of Gaga singing the song against a white background in an all-pink outfit, which includes her now-ubiquitous signature cowboy hat.
Many observers have speculated that the inspiration behind "Million Reasons" is Gaga's relationship with ex-boyfriend Taylor Kinney, to whom she was engaged until the two broke up earlier this year. Gaga has refused to discuss the specific reasons behind the split and insists she remains good friends with the actor. In a recent interview, however, Gaga alluded to what may have precipitated the breakup.
"I think women love very hard. We love men. We just love with everything we have. And sometimes I don't know that that love is met with the type of dignity that we wish it would be met with. You know, we're not trying to make you less of a man," Gaga explained. "We just want you to love us as deeply and as wholesomely and as fully as we love you."
