Madonna On James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke': Did She Outshine Prior Guest Lady Gaga? [Video]

The queen of pop Madonna has just completed a sing along car ride with comedian James Corden on his smash viral video segment "Carpool Karaoke." Madonna pulled out all the stops as she vogued, twerked, and of course sang some of her biggest hits with Corden as the two drove around the streets of Manhattan.

We recently told you that Madonna would be the next guest on "Carpool Karaoke" and this week her segment appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, prior to being posted to the late night chat fest's YouTube account. We had wondered how Madonna's appearance would fare immediately following prior guest Lady Gaga, who recently made some biting comments about the queen of pop when compared to her in an interview to promote her new album Joanne.

Madonna Moves And Grooves

It seems as if Madonna pulled out all the stops to show who's the boss, as she not only gave her all when joining Corden in singing some of her most famous songs, but also managed to contort her body within the confines of Corden's SUV to pull off various dance moves.

The two began by singing Madonna's iconic hit "Vogue," and unlike Gaga who essentially remained in her seat during her sing along, Madonna put her money where her mouth is by striking various poses throughout her tune, culminating in a leg lift that broached the vehicles ceiling. Not to be outdone, Corden attempted the move as well.

Later, when singing one of Madonna's most recent releases, "B**** I'm Madonna" from her last album Rebel Heart, the 58-year-old diva showed she's been keeping up with the latest club moves as she turned around in the passenger seat and offered up an impressive twerk.

It wasn't all dance moves from the pop star, however, as she and Corden sang an acapella rendition of ballad "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Madonna's film Evita. The two also joined to croon "Express Yourself," "Papa Don't Preach," "Ray Of Light," and in the final minutes of the ride, "Music," during which Madonna stuck her leg out the car window to the shock of several passersby.

Madonna vs. Gaga

"Express Yourself" is, of course, the Madonna song which ignited the feud between her and Lady Gaga, whose "Born This Way," which many perceived as a rip off of the track, Madonna famously labeled as "reductive." While it might sound as if Madonna was trying too hard to outdo her nemesis during the appearance, she actually seemed sincere and spontaneous, clearly feeling the music and performing it authentically.

Where Lady Gaga outshined Madonna in her appearance, however, besides her superior vocal chops, was in Gaga's genuine warmth and connection to Corden himself. While Madonna definitely gave it her all, in most singing moments of the two person ride, she appears to be performing solo, rarely making eye contact with Corden or looking his way.

In conversation, Madonna maintained a fairly cold and sardonic demeanor throughout the ride — teasing Corden about his choice of outfit, revealing that she once French kissed another iconic pop star, Michael Jackson, but never really seeming to connect with the host as prior guests have done. The result leaves her appearance feeling more like a well-played skit than a real, intimate human interaction

Now that Madonna's clip has been posted on YouTube, it will be interesting to see how her view count stacks up against Gaga and all time "Carpool Karaoke" view leader Adele.
