YouTube has announced the top 10 viral videos for 2016, and the No. 1 spot by a wide margin belongs to Adele's appearance on James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke." The video clip of the singer's ride with the comic talk show host has amassed more than 135 million YouTube views since debuting on the video streaming channel this past January.
As the end of 2016 approaches, it's time again for the annual rundown of YouTube's most popular viral videos of the year, and this year it is no surprise that Adele's appearance on James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" segment of his late-night talk show The Late Late Show with James Corden has taken the top spot.
Adele And James Corden Go Viral And Break Records
The British singer was on a huge roll last winter after the release of her massively popular album 25, which was preceded by the release of the first single off of the collection and corresponding smash video "Hello," which garnered more than 1 billion YouTube views in less than three months, breaking records. It's no surprise then that her intimate sing-along car ride with Corden followed suit when it debuted this January, and now it has been officially named the top viral video of the year.
Despite appearances later this year on "Carpool Karaoke" by the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and even First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, none could even touch the number of views for the Adele clip, in which she and Corden sing her songs "Hello," "Someone Like You," "All I Ask" and "Rolling in the Deep," along with a playful rendition of the Spice Girls classic "Wannabe."
Justin Bieber's earlier appearance with Corden is still the second most popular "Carpool Karaoke" segment on YouTube, and it was his "favorite video on the internet" according to the Bieb's September tweet that helped propel Japanese comedian Piko-Taro's bizarre "Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen" music video to the No. 2 spot on YouTube's most viral videos of 2016 list, followed by the self- explanatory "What's Inside a Rattlesnake Rattle?"
Beyoncé And Zombie Apocalypse Score High
Another video of note in the top 10 was pop star Beyoncé's surprise appearance as Channing Tatum performs dressed as the diva singing her hit song "Run The World (Girls)" on the popular Spike TV show Lip Sync Battle.
Our favorite of the bunch for pure laughs however, has to be "Brothers Convince Little Sister of Zombie Apocalypse," in which an unsuspecting girl who has just had her wisdom teeth pulled is pranked into believing the end of the world is at hand.
