The Motorola built Nexus 6 has now passed through the FCC for certification just in time for Google's launch. The phablet will be available for pre-order on Oct. 29 via the Google Play Store.
The Google Nexus 6 has been one of the most talked about smartphones in the months leading up to its official announcement. We reported on the handset back in July and at the time, it seemed a little strange that Google was reportedly partnering with Motorola to build the Nexus 6, considering it had acquired the company for $12.5 billion and shocked the tech world when it sold Motorola to Lenovo for $2.91 billion.
In what appears as a parting gift, Google enlisted Lenovo-owned Motorola to build its first phablet, the just announced Nexus 6. It was a wise decision and benchmarks of the Nexus 6 outperformed all current flagship smartphones like the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, and HTC One M8. The Nexus 6's main competitors are Apple's first phablet, iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4. Nexus 6 has just passed through the FCC ahead of its release.
The Google Nexus 6 features a 5.96-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a pixel density of 493 pixels per inch (ppi). It's powered by a 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, Adreno 420 GPU (graphics processing unit), and 3 GB of RAM. It will be the first smartphone to ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop and is offered in two storage configurations; 32 GB priced at $649 and 64 GB at $699.
Just like the new Moto X, the Nexus 6 incorporates a contoured aluminum body with a curved rear case to fit comfortably in your hand. The phablet has a high-end 13-megapixel rear with optical image stabilization (OIS), dual-LED ring flash, HDR+, 4K video recording at 30 fps, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for HD video conferencing and selfies. Its wireless connectivity options include a 4G LTE radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac 2x2 (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.0 LE (low energy), NFC, and GPS.
The Nexus 6 also has some cool tricks up its sleeves that are sure to impress anyone considering Google's first and flagship phablet. The handset is water resistant, packs a large 3,220 mAh battery, built-in Qi Wireless charging support, and ships with the Motorola Turbo charger, which will provide up to 6 additional hours of battery life with a 15 minute charge.
Google will begin talking pre-orders on Oct. 29 via the Google Play store. If you're not looking to purchase an unlocked device and shell out $649 or $699 for the new Nexus, the phablet will be making its way to all major U.S. carriers at some point in November with lower prices when signing a new 2-year contract.
