Netflix has added offline viewing at last, allowing users to download shows and watch them even without an internet connection.
This has been one of the most requested features for the video streaming platform, and with the latest update, Netflix users can watch their favorite shows either by streaming them online or downloading them for offline viewing.
The offline viewing feature is rolling out globally, and many shows already offer this option, while others will get it soon.
"Netflix members worldwide can now download in addition to stream great series and films at no extra cost," says Netflix.
Netflix Offline Viewing
Netflix points out that while many of its users watch Netflix at home, the company also wants to enable subscribers to continue watching Netflix shows even while on a plane or in an area with limited, expensive or nonexistent internet connection.
To download a show for offline viewing, simply open the details page for a movie or TV series and click the download button so you can have it ready for offline viewing when you don't have an internet connection.
Most of the popular TV shows and movies on Netflix are already available for offline viewing, and more will join the party soon. For now, users can already download series such as Orange Is the New Black, The Crown or Narcos and watch them offline.
How To Enable Netflix Offline Viewing
The new offline viewing feature is available on all Netflix plans and all platforms, including smartphones and tablets running Android or iOS. To start downloading Netflix content for offline viewing, all you need to do is upgrade to the latest version of the app. The Netflix app is compatible with iOS 8.0 or later and Android 4.4.2 or later.
According to Netflix, downloading and streaming a Netflix movie or TV show consumes roughly the same amount of data. Users worried about exceeding their data allowance, however, may want to download their shows while connected to Wi-Fi.
