GoPro has a useful, new accessory for Hero5 cameras: introducing the waterproof voice-controlled remote control aptly called Remo.
One of the best features of the GoPro Hero5 action cameras is that they support voice control for tasks such as starting or stopping recording, taking photo bursts, changing modes, taking pictures, setting highlight tags or turning off the camera.
Since GoPro Hero5 cameras are action cameras, however, chances are that they'll do some work in adventurous scenarios such as snowboarding, zip lining, kayaking, surfing, skiing and such others. In cases like these, voice control can become tough to handle due to increased noise that can prevent the camera's microphones from accurately distinguishing voice commands.
GoPro Remo Features
The new Remo accessory should solve such issues and also add extra convenience, allowing for voice controls even in noisy or windy environments that affect the microphone in Hero5 cameras. The waterproof voice-controlled remote is designed for Hero5 cameras and it's a clip-on gadget that's waterproof up to 16 feet (5 meters). Remo responds to voice commands in 10 languages, including English (U.S., UK, AU), French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin) and Italian and has a range of 33 feet (10 meters), allowing users to control their cameras even from afar.
This should come in handy for users who like to strap their GoPro cameras on their babies or their pets to get a different perspective on things. As long as they don't go too far, you can control what the camera does.
"Remo understands 10 languages and can hear you in windy and noisy environments, so your HERO5 is ready for action whenever — and wherever — you are," touts GoPro.
While it supports 13 voice commands, Remo can also serve as a one-button remote control if you don't feel like speaking out voice commands. The GoPro Remo comes with a clothes clip and a wrist strap so you can take it with you wherever.
The Drawback
On the downside, the GoPro Remo plays nice with the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session, but it's not compatible with GoPro's older action cameras. It only works with newer models that support voice commands.
