Pokémon Sun and Moon players are reporting that their characters are disappearing when they save their games in areas with a PC such as the Battle Tree area and Pokémon Centers, chalking it up to a glitch that Game Freak supposedly missed.
However, that doesn't seem to be the cause at all. Apparently, the issue stems from the save-editing tool used for cheating purposes PKHeX.
The Initial Reports
As mentioned earlier, the players thought at first that it was a bug that came with Pokémon Sun and Moon, especially when a YouTube user who goes by the name of Ray2R posted a video online that showed it in action.
Of course, everyone was quick to spread the word on Reddit to save their fellow trainers from losing all their progress so they won't have to say good-bye to their precious Incineroar, Decidueye or Primarina.
The PKHeX Creator Responds
Simply going by the name Kurt or @Kaphotics on Twitter, the tool creator calls out the people who are pointing the finger at the game itself, saying that PKHeX is indeed the root of the problem.
Continuing the Twitter thread, the developer explains that "saving changes in the latest .exe truncated player coordinates." Essentially, that solves the mystery of the disappearing characters.
It's also worth mention that he does say the issue has been ironed out on Nov. 18.
Don't Mess With Your Save Files
To boil things down, Pokémon Sun and Moon players who have come across this "glitch" better not hold their breath for a fix from Game Freak, and those who haven't tinkered with their save files have no need to worry about losing their progress.
