Valve is again holding its annual Steam Halloween Sale, and it involves massive game titles and movies being offered at ridiculously discounted prices.
The official word is that discounts mainly involve horror-themed and Halloween-related titles, which should cover around 65 games. The rates start from 10 percent to a staggering 90 percent price cuts.
A look at Steam's dedicated Sale database, however, indicates that more than 5,000 items are now classified under Specials. It is not yet clear whether this number constitutes the bulk of Steam games and movies. This is highlighted by the fact that some entries are multiple expansions or updates to one title while others are non-game softwares.
Nevertheless, the sales offering is quite extensive, effectively establishing what trick or treat for grown-ups must be like within the digital distribution platform.
Notable discounted titles include major releases such as F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, several Resident Evil titles such as Resident Evil 5 and BioShock Remastered. Games with cult following such as Amnesia, Outlast, Five Nights at Freddy's and Limbo have not been left out. Some new releases also joined the party, and these crowd includes Darkest Dungeon, Through the Woods and Zero Time Dilemma.
The Halloween Sale is also populated by zombies with titles — headed by The Walking Dead — that will let you play as one or against the creatures if your gaming taste veers toward the undead pursuits.
Again, there is a host of games available at significantly reduced prices, so you will probably don't have the time to hunt for the best bargains. In this case, we found some incredible steals that can help you along so you can get on with playing.
The first is Dead Space, which is practically free at $5. The sci-fi-horror game slashed 75 percent off its price so you can happily obliterate aliens with a laser gun. Similar alien-themed game System Shock 2 also has the same discount rate and now costs $2.50.
BioShock Remastered is also in the market at 50 percent discount. This notoriously creepy title is available for $10. Gamers could also consider the Resident Evil 4, which most recognize as the best in the franchise. It is being sold for $7.
The Steam Halloween Sale started Oct. 28 and will run until Nov. 1. That is a 5-day period, so gamers do not have the excuse to rant about the sale duration.
Valve is expected to hold its own Black Friday event, and prices were likely drop at the same rate. What sets the Steam Halloween Sale event different is its focus on horror-themed titles.
