When we think of the holidays, it's hard not to imagine tuning into the Peanut specials that air every year. Even though we know exactly what to expect when A Charlie Brown Christmas is on, it still leaves us with that old familiar feeling of our childhood.
And now millennials can soak in all that nostalgia with a modern twist thanks to this mashup video that combines the classic Peanuts gang with the new cool kids on the block: the kids from Stranger Things.
The animated video titled "A Stranger Things Christmas" was created by Leigh Lahav and Oren Mendez, and tells the story of what happens to Will Byers (Charlie Brown) when he returns home from the Upside Down.
In typical Charlie Brown fashion, the video is about Will trying to make sense of what happened to him and his feelings about returning to every day life. Despite knowing that he should be happy that he survived the whole ordeal, he struggles to be positive. This really makes the viewers realize how depressed Charlie Brown always is, while also making the audience feel like they are watching the first episode of season 2 in animated form.
Following the popular scenes from the Peanuts along with phrases like "good grief" and the "wah wah wah" of his mother Joyce, an adult, Stranger Things fans will love some of the little touches added into the mashup like Will coughing up a slug, Eleven having a bloody nose, the alphabet Christmas lights hung in the Byers residence, and even an appearance by Barb.
When it comes down to it, Eleven has his back, even if it's just to offer some Eggos, and somehow getting a visit by the Snoopy Demogorgon helps put everything in perspective. With his friends around him, Will realizes that his buddies have been rallying behind him all long.
There is no denying that this Christmas take on Stranger Things is well just plain out strange. With less of a focus on the holidays and more of a focus on the spirits of the young boy, it's certainly entertaining to watch these two worlds collide. The gang even jams out to the Stranger Things theme song.
Stranger Things was renewed for a second season, and is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2017.
