'2001: A Space Odyssey' gets a fancy new trailer to celebrate limited theatrical run

It's the quintessential classic of sci-fi cinema: Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film continues to inspire generations of filmmakers today, and now ahead of the film's digitally remastered release in U.K. cinemas, a brand new trailer for the 40+ year old motion picture has been released.

It is every bit as visually stunning, eerie and powerful as when the film originally released. The trailer uses the rogue A.I. Hal to create an unsettling mood as the film's iconic score blares in the background. If you've never seen the film, this will make you want to. If you already have, this will make you want to watch it again. Check it out below.

Throughout the trailer, quotes from prominent directors flash across the screen commenting on 2001: A Space Odyssey's importance and brilliance. Christopher Nolan is including among the quotes. His upcoming sci-fi epic Interstellar draws more than a little inspiration from Kubrick's work. Jan Harlan, Kubrick's executive producer, described the trailer in a statement as "the best trailer for this film I have ever seen! To use Hal's voice is brilliant."

The new trailer was commissioned by Warner Bros. and the British Film Institute, and created by London's Ignition Creative in celebration of a limited theatrical run of the digitally remastered version of the film starting Nov. 28, as part of the British Film Institute's "Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder" season. Other films to be shown include A Clockwork Orange and Barbarella, along with various events.
