Sci-Fi at Comic Con

New York Comic Con, haven of NYC's geek population, started off with a bang on Oct 9. Here are some of the science-fiction highlights of the convention that you won't want to miss:

BIOWARS

Biowars is a free webcomic about the bacterial wars that rage inside the human body.

Stop by the Biowars booth at Comic Con to meet the team behind the comic, as well as creator Gabriel Shaoolian. You can read the comic online.

Biowars also has a new video game coming out soon.

"The video game's going to take place in different parts of the human body, and you're going to be fighting off different types of bacteria and germs," said Matthew Diciero, one of the members of the marketing team.

"We hope that you walk away from it having a great time, but also having a little extra information. I'm really psyched about it," Diciero added.

Bonus: Visit the Biowars booth and get a chance to win an iPhone 6.

SCI-FI PRESSES

With so many publishers all in one place, Comic Con is a great place to pick up some new reading. One cool book you can pick up from Locust Moon Press is "Once Upon a Time Machine," an anthology of future fairy tales. Twenty-five creative teams took folklore and fairy tales from around the world and re-imagined them with new sci-fi twists and settings.

"We wanted to do a big collective anthology project and focus it on a relatable theme but also make sure the doors were open for a lot of new doors and new ideas. That's how we got the idea of basing it on stories everyone would know, but also opening it up to the future and any artist or writer's imagination, so that every story is as familiar as the core of it would be, but still end up showing you things that only one person could have ever imagined," said Andrew Carl, editor of the anthology.

Locust Moon Press is currently working on a second volume of the anthology, with "a certain Hugo and Nebula award-winning science-fiction author that would be making his comics debut" in volume 2. Volume 2 is focused on sci-fi takes on Greek myths.
