Evan Peters Makes His 'American Horror Story: Roanoke' Debut: Everything We Know About His Character

Since season six of American Horror Story premiered, fans have been waiting for the debut of two characters: the one played by Lady Gaga and the one played by Evan Peters.

After learning all about Gaga's Scathach, fans were still patiently waiting for Peters' grand entrance.

That time has finally arrived on Oct. 12, Wednesday night's episode.

Just hours before "Chapter 5" of American Horror Story: Roanoke aired, showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed on Twitter that Peters will be making his season debut.

And more than just making an appearance, the entire episode was about his character.

There was fan speculation that Peters could be the producer behind the true-life documentary show starring Shelby and Matt Miller (Lily Rabe and Andre Holland). Others believed that the AHS alumni was Piggy Man just like how Peters' character Tate Langdon took on the role of Rubber Man in Murder House.

However, the real connection to Peters' character this year is has to do with season four's Freak Show.

After teasing that this season fans would learn the backstory about Dandy Mott, last night's episode was dedicated to the copycat clown's ancestor.

Peters was introduced to the season as Edward Phillip Mott, the original owner of the Miller house. And we learn a lot about the Big Shaker Mansion and Mott from the historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, who takes us through the flashback.

Mott is the ancestor of Frances Conroy and son Dandy. He is a very wealthy man who lived an extravagant and flamboyant life - so much so that he decided to build a mansion out in the woods in 1792. This is so he could enjoy his most prized possessions and first love: his paintings.

Along with being a lover of the arts, he also has a male lover, his servant named Guinness, who lived in the mansion with him.

To get a better feel for his motivations, it's important to understand the characteristics of Mott. While he does enjoy the "velvet tongue" of his lover, he admitted to love his paintings more. He also has a serious fear of being judged and the thought of it drives him half-mad. Mott also has a short temper and can be brutal.

But with it being The Butcher's land, strange occurrences begin happening during the construction of the house and continue on after Mott moves in.

Two days into being in the house, The Butcher (Kathy Bates) destroys all his paintings, which causes Mott to lose it and lock all his servants in the cellar until they confess to their crime.

But then Mott is awakened by a nightmare (and has a Hotel moment that serves as a nod to Sally as it appears like he comes out of the mattress and sheets) and is captured by the colonists.

(I also have to point to the fact that Peters' character in Roanoke is similar to his last season's as H.H. Holmes, since they are both wealthy owners of the mansions.)

The Roanoke colonists then stake him and burn him, The Butcher getting her Blood Moon sacrifice.

We then learn the Motts that followed were all a little mad, with the lineage ending in 1952 with the death of serial killer Dandy Mott.

Now trapped as a ghost, Edward Mott - wig and all - helps the Millers escape the house through a secret tunnel. He does so because he wants solitude in his home without the addition of more souls.

Interestingly enough, every time the fire torch crosses Mott's face, it reveals a skeleton in an awesome yet kind of silly lighting effect to pay homage to how he was roasted.

Although he just leaves Matt, Shelby and Flora in woods, he does appear again and save Shelby yet again so they can finally escape the land. So it looks like the ghost kind of has a good bone in his body.

Peters typically plays a crucial character in the anthology series, so there is a good chance this is not the last we see of him. It's still possible that Mott is connected to Scathach somehow, and it's interesting that his name has appeared in every episode, so maybe he's been there all along. This might mean he is Piggy Man, but it seems unlikely now that the character was featured in the same scene as Mott. Then again, stranger things have happened.

American Horror Story: Roanoke airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
