American Horror Story's latest episode this week was all about setting the stage for what is about to come in the following chapters (until that big twist).
With its documentary format, the audience learns the events that occurred on the Miller property through the interviews and in the reenactments. But this week felt more storybook-like than ever as we were told more about what's really going on when it comes to the Roanoke property.
That's because Dr. Elias Cunningham (Denis O'Hare) gave Shelby (Sarah Paulson) and Matt (Cuba Gooding Jr.) a history about the paranormal activity that has gone on in the house, giving them an example of an immigrant family who went missing. This is all tied into the lunar cycle for the Blood Moon, the time in October when spirits can wreak havoc in our world.
There in the woods, all the spirits were seen hanging out with Flora, who is still not safely back with the family.
Viewers also were given the backstory to Lady Gaga's mysterious seductress Scathach, learning more about the ultimate sacrifice The Butcher made to the gods to remain on the land and how the anniversary of the massacre is tied to the Blood Moon. We also now know that Scathach's desire is the strongest during this time, so Matt will probably have to continue to keep running away from her spell.
And now with the moon in its lunar phase, the Roanoke house is about to come alive with spirits next week.
In the promo for AHS: Roanoke episode five, The Butcher is still on her mission to reclaim her land and kick out the Millers. While the colonists creep around outside, in the house more strange occurrences begin to happen.
"You could feel the house coming alive around you," Shelby (Lily Rabe) says.
This includes seeing the killer nurse sisters roaming the halls, having those Blair Witch appearances again and seeing some creepy demon-like child scaling the walls all Exorcist-style.
But the Millers aren't safe as the mob of colonists try to break their way inside. Of course, they end up in the woods again with more Mr. Piggy sightings. The monsters are really coming out in full force next week.
American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Check out the promo for episode 5 below.
