HTC recently announced two devices that bring bang for the buck: the Desire 10 Pro midrange device, and the entry-level, affordable Desire 10 Lifestyle.
The handsets are currently available in Europe, with the U.S. market scheduled for an early November release.
The company touts that the price of its new smartphones will fall behind those of the HTC 10. Compared to the flagship's $699, the HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle will be a breezy $325. Earlier reports estimated the device at about $200. The more elegant Pro's price was not announced yet.
Both phones are flashier than previous Desire models, but still far from the elegance of the full metallic flagship killer HTC 10.
Nevertheless, HTC has managed to pack its new midrange smartphones with high-end features.
HTC Desire 10 Pro
The Pro is the first in the Desire line to come with focus on increased security, via a fingerprint sensor on the rear.
The camera on the Desire Pro does not disappoint either: the 20-megapixel sensor makes use of a f/2.2 aperture, laser autofocus and dual-LED flash. For selfie passionates, the frontal 13-megapixel camera should do the trick.
Keep in mind that the Pro is on the large side of handsets, packing a 5.5-inch full HD screen able to display 1,920 x 1,080p resolutions.
Processing power comes via an eight-core 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 CPU. The gadget gets two variants, one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage space and another with 4 GB of RAM and a hefty 64 GB of default storage. Those who want more can use the microSD slot for up to 2 TB of memory.
A sturdy, non-removable 3,000 mAh power source keeps juice running in the Pro. On the software side, the Pro is loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and HTC Sense.
HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle
The Lifestyle is far from impressive, at least on paper. It has no fingerprint scanner, and its display, albeit large at 5.5 inches, sports only a 1,280 x 720p resolutions.
The smartphone relies on a quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset for processing power that is backed by up to 3 GB of RAM. Storage sits at 32 GB, with a microSD slot that permits up to 2 TB of memory. Keep in mind that the basic model features 2 GB RAM and 16 GB space.
Where the Lifestyle is surprisingly good is in its support of 24-bit Hi-Res audio. The technology is identical to the one from the HTC 10, and it's said to deliver ultimate audio quality through speakers or headphones.
The camera combo in the Desire 10 Lifestyle shows a modest 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel selfie snapper.
The non-removable 2,700 mAh battery keeps the device running. Software-wise, customers of the Lifestyle will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped in HTC Sense.
