Fans of the Resident Evil series have something to look forward to at the beginning of 2017, as an animated movie based on the franchise in in tow.
Dubbed Resident Evil: Vendetta (Biohazard: Vendetta in Japan), the CG-animated movie will roll out in spring 2017, according to official sources. Keep in mind that the release date is set for Japan, with no mention of international availability just yet.
Capcom took the stage at the Tokyo Game Show and showcased some still images from the footage. The company chose to tease the attendees with the announced TV show and the reaction from the audience was positive.
The still images from the movie were published by the Japanese website Anime! Anime! The report speculates that the film is set to feature beloved characters from the series, and a plot twist will throw them in an "unpredictable battle." Additional tidbits of info point out that the movie will be reminiscent of Resident Evil 1 in its atmosphere.
A rumor about a video trailer surfaced, and it is good to see that it held water. Capcom indeed released footage from the animation on Sept. 18 at 4 a.m. Eastern Time Zone.
At the helm of the production we find Marza Animation Planet and Takanori Tsujimoto, who fans might recognize as the leader of the Ultraman X project. Makoto Fukami was in charge of screenwriting, while Kenji Kawai composed the music for the film.
It is worth noting that Takashi Shimizu (The Grudge) is the executive producer of the show.
There is very little data about the actual story line of Resident Evil: Vendetta. However, insiders familiar with the matter are touting that some important characters from the Resident Evil games will be present in the animated movie.
For example, sources say that character Leon Kennedy will be fighting some enemies while riding the iconic Ducati XDiavel.
Until the animated movie lands, fans of the game can expect to see Resident Evil 4,5 and 6 coming to both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 until the end of 2016. Keep in mind that each title will be sold separately and they will arrive in reverse order. This means that nostalgic fans of Resident Evil 4 will have to wait most to see their favorite title hit the consoles.
