It seems that iOS 10 issues continue to pile up, as a carrier settings update is now causing service blackouts for some T-Mobile customers.
After the update to iOS 10 bricked iPhones and iPads, another iOS 10 issue is now causing T-Mobile users who lose service for a brief amount of time to remain offline even in areas where they should otherwise have no issues.
Affected users have flocked to Apple's support forums to complain about the problem, reporting that if their iOS 10 device would briefly lose service, it would fail to reconnect to a cellular network until it's restarted.
"When my iPhone loses service for any amount of time, like when driving through an area that isn't covered or going inside of a building, the device will not reconnect to the cellular network once it is back in range," one user explains. "I have tried toggling airplane made to make it search again; this does not work. I have tried resetting network settings; this also did not work and now I have to re-enter the password for every wifi network (bummer)."
It seems that users are only able to reconnect once they reboot their device or Reset Network Settings from the Settings app on iOS 10. Apple-centric publication AppleInsider can confirm the issue first-hand.
"AppleInsider can confirm the existence of the glitch, which on Wednesday kept an editor's iPhone 6 offline in an area which normally has good reception. Rebooting the phone solved the situation," the publication reports.
The issue could have something to do with how iPhones connect to T-Mobile's LTE network, as it seems to start when the device gets temporarily off LTE coverage. While it should bounce back online as soon as it gets reception again, an affected device would remain completely offline until resetted. For those who routinely pass through areas with no service, such as elevators or underground parking, this could get really frustrating really fast.
Some suggested that a carrier update might be related, as the issue did not exist prior to this week for T-Mobile users. However, it seems that Telstra customers in Australia are also affected by the same glitch.
T-Mobile, for its part, has confirmed that the issue is affecting iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone SE handsets running iOS 10 on its network. The company's Chief Technology Officer, Neville Ray, announced that Apple is working on a fix for this iOS 10 issue and promised to deliver a solution within the next 48 hours. In the meantime, iPhone SE, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus users are advised to postpone upgrading to iOS 10.
If you've already upgraded to iOS 10 and regret it, here's how to roll back to iOS 9.
