How To Get Rid Of ‘Raise To Wake’ And Get The Old Touch ID Unlock Feature Back For iOS 10

Depending on how you look at it, the new update to your iPhone's lock screen is either a great thing or the worst feature to come out of iOS 10.

The biggest change to the lock screen is the removal of the old, familiar "Slide to Unlock" feature that has been around forever. Users would previously slide their finger across the screen of smartphone to access their device, or use Touch ID by placing their finger on the home button.

The launch of iOS 10 brings with it a whole new lock screen experience. For example, when the iPhone is locked, the user is instructed to now press on the home button to unlock it. While this may be a nice change for those who just want to check their notifications without unlocking their phone without feeling rushed, many others might need some time to get used to it.

Switching from a touch to a press to unlock system had to be done thanks to Apple's new "Raise to Wake" feature, which consists of automatically turning on the screen whenever the smartphone is picked up.

In order to have the screen awaken by just lifting up the iPhone, it meant that Apple needed to make a change to the way the device is unlocked — and this meant saying bye bye to the Touch ID unlock.

However, those who updated and are wishing for the old days of iOS 9 can get the Touch ID unlock feature back with this iPhone hack.

Start by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button. Toggle on the "Rest Finger to Open" button to go back to using Touch ID.

Keep in mind that the the whole point of changing the lock screen system was to prevent users from missing notifications since the Touch ID capabilities of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus unlock the device quickly.

The best way to be able to make sure that users don't miss notifications while also getting used to the new lock screen features is by keeping "Raise to Wake" on.

Raise to Wake is automatically set after the software update. It can be disabled or enabled by going to Settings > Display & Brightness. The user should then toggle "Raise to Wake" off.

Once this is on, the user just needs to raise their iPhone to eye level to have the smartphone wake up to show notifications. Swipe right to quickly access the camera, and left to see widgets like apps and News.
