One of the latest leaks was seen on a Vietnamese site where a prototype of the new iPad Air was revealed. The leaks showed that the next generation of iPad Air will only be 7mm thick which makes it thinner than the original iPad Air by 0.5mm. However, it still didn't make it as the thinnest tablet available in the market as that description has been attributed to rival tablets from Dell and Sony.
The slimmer build of the new iPad Air could mean that Apple is removing the mute button found on the right side of the tablet. Moreover, the speaker grille has been changed to have a single row of holes instead of the two rows found from the older model. There's also a new hole discovered on top of the volume control buttons which could just be the device's built-in microphone.
Other notable changes were revealed by the website Apple.club.tw on Saturday when it leaked images that show a logic board with a new set of A8x chip, a cable for the volume buttons, a cable for the Touch ID home button, and the assembly of the front panel. The A8x chip is purported to be an upgrade to the current A8 chip found on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
In addition to the report, the upcoming iPad Air is said to be equipped with 2GB of RAM, a boost from the 1GB found on the current model of the iPad Air.
Along with the RAM upgrade, the next generation iPad Air model is also believed to feature an upgraded display technology although details on the pixel densities are scarce at this point. For the purpose of comparison, the current iPad Air is built with a Retina display of 9.7 inches with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels at 264ppi. The smaller iPad mini features the same resolution though a 326ppi is produced out of the device's 7.9 inch display.
Apart from the anticipated iPad Air 2, Apple may soon release a larger tablet which is speculated to carry the monicker 'iPad Pro.' Though it will have the same resolution found in the iPad Air, it will definitely sport a bigger liquid-crystal display of 12.9 inches.
Apple already sent out invitations for the company's media event which is slated to occur on Oct. 16. Event attendees are expecting to hear an announcement from Apple on the next generation iPad Air. If all the leaks are indeed real, it could be safe to assume that the new iPad Air will have a thinner chassis, faster A8 processor, some design tweaks and a Touch ID fingerprint recognition.
