Apple is expected to hold an event Oct. 16 to announce a number of new products that were left out of the Sept. 9 event that saw the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6Plus.
One of those new products is the next generation of Apple's tablet, the iPad Air, along with other items like new iMac computers and the next iteration of Apple's operating system, OS X Yosemite.
There are a number of reports hinting at what the next iPad may or may not include. It is widely believed that the next generation of the tablet will include a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, which has been included on the iPhone since last year's iPhone 5S.
There have been conflicting reports as to whether or not the next line of iPads will include a near-field communication chip and take advantage of Apple's new mobile payment system, Apple Pay. Current rumors suggest that the device actually will not include an NFC chip due to the fact that it is hard to imagine someone carrying around their iPad and holding it up to a payment station.
The new iPads will also include Apple's new A8 processor, which is found in both new iPhones. Another rumor is that the iPad will now be offered in a gold color option which was previously only offered on the iPhone.
Another rumor about the upcoming iPads is that Apple has been developing a 12.9-inch iPad, which could be introduced sometime next year. This likely will not be seen at the October event.
The new iMac computers are also expected to make an appearance at the event, with rumors suggesting that Apple will unveil a 27-inch iMac with a 5K display, making it the first time that Apple is offering an ultrahigh resolution display in an all-in-one desktop computer.
Apple's new computer operating system, OS X Yosemite, or OS X 10.10, is also expected to make an appearance at the Oct. 16 event. One of the main features of the new operating system, called continuity, is expected to be a big hit among Apple fans because it allows them to make and receive phone calls and text messages straight from their Apple computers and iPads.
Another Apple product that is expected to feature at the event is Apple's new Apple Pay, which was unveiled in September. Despite being unveiled, the feature was not actually launched, and is expected to do so at the upcoming event.
