The success of the Guardians of the Galaxy at the box office has prompted Disney and Marvel to work towards an animated TV series that is bound for a 2015 launch on Disney XD TV channel. This is a new beginning for Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot, as they will be brought to the small screen to give bad guys a beating.
Marvel made the announcement recently at the New York Comic-Con conference, and no doubt the fans were in frenzy. While the new series will feature all the main characters, it is unlikely that they will be voiced by the movie actors, though we doubt many fans will end up finding a problem with that.
"The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each week," Disney XD's Marc Buhaj said in a press release.
This is big news Marvel fans, especially for those who enjoyed what Guardians of the Galaxy had to offer at the theaters. The movie was an unexpected hit, so there is a high chance the animated series could travel in the same footsteps.
Apart from some mishaps on the small screen where Agents of SHIELD is concerned, the studio has been on a long line of hits, and at this rate, there's a chance Marvel could be on the winning edge for years to come.
It is not yet certain if the animated series will be set in the same universe as the film. Since Marvel is clearly into linking all its properties under a single universe, this might be the case with the animated series.
Not every Marvel fan will find this to be good news, as the animated series on Disney XD that are centered on Marvel characters are targeted at children. Ever heard of the Hulk having a cellphone and actually knowing how to use it? That's the Hulk from Disney's animated series that are designed for children, so older fans should not lose their minds over this.
At the end of the day, this is great news. Let's just hope the writers can bring the same amount of quality to the animated series that made the movie so fun for fans.
