For horror game fans, it was tough to hear about the cancellation of Silent Hills after the game's "Playable Teaser" for PlayStation 4 spawned so much buzz.
It did, however, inspire the creation of Allison Road, a spiritual successor to Silent Hills' playable teaser. The game first appeared as a Kickstarter in July 2015, where it found plenty of attention thanks to the game sporting a vibe very similar to that of Silent Hills. It eventually found a publisher because of that fact.
Then, something went wrong. Development on the game stopped in June, with official word being that the game was canceled. Just like Silent Hills before it, horror fans were out of luck. However, much like the horrifying ghosts found within the game, Allison Road is now back from the dead.
Talking with IGN, Allison Road creator Christian Kesler says he will be working on the game by himself from here on out, under a new label called Far From Home, which he recently founded with his wife.
"It did take a bit of soul searching to find the drive again to work on Allison Road and to simply make a call on what to do next," Kesler says. "After the set back, I took a bit of a break from working on it and re-evaluated all the work that had been done so far — the whole journey, so to speak. I started making a few (in my opinion) necessary changes to the story and the flow, little bits and pieces here and there, and before I knew it, it sort of naturally came back to life."
Kesler says he's confident he can finish the game on his own. After all, Allison Road began as a one-man project, with Kesler doing all of the textures, modeling, shaders and more seen in the game's Kickstarter trailer. He will be building upon the work already done on the game during the last development phase.
"If and when it comes to a point where new features and mechanics are required, or old ones need changing, I'll go look for support," he says.
No word on when exactly fans can expect Allison Road to arrive. The game has been in the works for more than a year now, but it might still be awhile before fans get the chance to play the finished project now that the title is a one-man show. Here's hoping it arrives sooner rather than later.
