Xbox One players looking forward to finally getting their hands on Destiny: The Taken King content previously exclusive to the PlayStation 4 will have to wait some more as the content's exclusivity period was extended to "at least Fall of 2017."
Typically, PS4 exclusives for Destiny made their way to the Xbox One about a year after they were released, so Fall 2016 would have been right around the time players on the latter console would've expected to finally enjoy content from The Taken King, which launched in September of last year.
Unfortunately, Bungie isn't following the one-year trend this time.
Destiny's upcoming expansion Rise of Iron is set to come out September for the two consoles and that too will bring exclusives to the PS4. However, PS4-exclusive Rise of Iron content should have been the one with an exclusivity period until at least Fall of 2017. Instead, Rise of Iron and The Taken King PS4 exclusives will have the same exclusivity period. So far, at least.
Bungie has listed the exclusivity period for PS4 exclusives from the two expansions as "until at least Fall of 2017." As such, the developer is at liberty to extend that period if they so choose, for whatever reason.
Great thing for PS4 players, but not so much for those on the Xbox One.
Rise of Iron PS4 exclusives will include:
- Gear sets for Titans, Warlocks and Hunters
- A ship, the Timeless Tereshkova
- A quest called Show of Strength
- Crucible maps, Icarus and Sector 618
- A Strike called Echo Chamber
At least when Rise of Iron launches next month, it will give both PS4 and Xbox One players access to Private Matches.
Announced during Gamescom 2016, Private Matches will let Destiny players develop their own lobbies where Crucible-type of games may be played. The Fireteam leader, the one who made the lobby, can use pre-selected options in putting together a match, allowing them to choose a map, set the score limit and time frame and the like.
Each Private Match will be set in a "personal clubhouse" bearing the name of the Clan in control. However, a player need not be part of a Clan to host a match by themselves, as a Fireteam leader can also play host to a match.
When a Private Match is completed, all players who participated will be earning 30 Crucible Reputation points, which can be increased using the Crucible Champion perk in certain Class items. Crucible Reputation Boosters, however, will have no effect.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is set for a release on Sept. 20.
