Details surrounding Apple's next-generation iPhones continue to leak online. Images of what is reportedly the Space Black iPhone 7 Plus show the new color, Smart Connector port and absence of a 3.5mm headphone port.
Apple recently announced that it has officially sold more than 1 billion iPhones since the original model was released in 2007. While the news was positive, the announcement comes at a time when many analysts continue to predict declining iPhone sales, which not only affects Apple but is also having a major impact on its suppliers and third-party companies. The company is counting on its upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, in addition to strong sales of the iPhone SE, to help turn things around.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to launch and be released in September, alongside iOS 10. The smartphones have been making headlines for months in the form of rumored features and leaked images.
Most recently, images of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus leaked and provided us with a look at the handsets in various color options, including the new Space Black variant that is widely rumored to replace Space Gray in Apple's iPhone color palette.
New images of what is reportedly the Space Black iPhone 7 Plus have been published online and the photos provide a close-up look at the smartphone's redesigned case that is virtually identical to that of its predecessor, the iPhone 6s Plus.
As you can see in the image above, the Space Black iPhone 7 Plus features a black bezel around its display and a reported 3D Touch black Home button. It is also darker than the Space Gray color Apple currently uses on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series.
While a previous report claimed Apple has abandoned using its iPad Pro's Smart Connector on the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, the port does appear on these latest images. Apple has shipped the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus with more advanced rear cameras than its smaller 4.7-inch counterparts and these images once again show the company will use a more feature-rich shooter on the larger smartphone and in the case of the iPhone 7 Plus, that will consist of a dual-lens rear camera.
In May, we reported that Apple was reportedly going to ship the iPhone 7 Plus with 3 GB of RAM as opposed to the 2 GB of RAM on the iPhone 7 and the reason was attributed to image processing required by the advanced dual-lens camera. A smartphone believed to be the iPhone 7 Plus made a recent appearance on Geekbench and backed up the claims of a larger amount of RAM.
The newly leaked Space Black iPhone 7 Plus images also back up previous claims that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus would ship without a 3.5mm headphone port and instead include Lightning EarPods in the box of the devices, which were recently shown off on video.
As usual, take these images with a huge grain of salt for now, as there have been so many conflicting reports on Apple's upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. We'll update you on any new information as it becomes available.
