Samsung may be testing the successor of the Galaxy Grand Prime as the upcoming device has been spotted thrice on Zauba.
Samsung announced the original Galaxy Grand Prime in September 2014. The smartphone was initially launched only in some Asian markets, but within a few months it was officially released in the U.S.
It seems that the company is testing the successor of the Galaxy Grand Prime, which could be called Galaxy Grand Prime (2016).
The upcoming Galaxy device has been spotted thrice on Zauba, an export and import tracking website in India. The handset first appeared on July 12, then on Aug. 4 and again on Aug. 6. In total, eight units of the device with model number SM-G532F were shipped to India.
The model number for the original Galaxy Grand Prime was SM-G531, which makes it likely that the new device is likely to be the successor of the Galaxy Grand Prime. The Zauba listing suggests that model SM-G532F has a 5-inch screen. No other detail about the phone is available on the website.
The original Galaxy Grand Prime sports a 5-inch screen with a display resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Under the hood is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked as 1.2 GHz and 1.5 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Grand Prime is packed with an 8-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 8 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to up to 64 GB with a microSD card.
The original Galaxy Grand Prime features an ultra power saving mode, which shuts down non-essential apps to maximize the battery life. This mode allows users to receive calls and texts up to 24 hours with only 10 percent charge.
Being a successor, the Galaxy Grand Prime (2016) is likely to feature better hardware specs. It may also come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.
In the U.S., T-Mobile is selling the original Galaxy Grand Prime for $199.99 on prepaid. Best Buy is currently offering the smartphone for $111.99. Given that the Galaxy Grand Prime (2016) will be a mid-range phone, customers will hope for a launch price between $150 and $200.
Samsung has not confirmed an official launch date for the Galaxy Grand Prime (2016). However, given that the original Galaxy Grand Prime was announced in September 2014, customers can expect Samsung to launch its successor in September this year.
Moreover, the purported Galaxy Grand Prime has appeared on Zauba thrice, which hints that Samsung will announce the mobile phone sooner than later.
