Games Done Quick is back, launching a speedrunning marathon for the summer on July 3.
Summer Games Done Quick is a speedrunning charity event that will see a weeklong showcase of the best players around beating dozens of video games hopefully in record time.
After a 30-minute pre-show, the event will open with speedrunner Bounceyboy taking on Super Mario Sunshine at the "any percentage" category. This means Bounceboy doesn't have to complete all the levels in the game to make his time count. Rather, all the speedrunner needs to do is to make sure he gets to the final stage of the game.
Aside from Super Mario Sunshine, Summer Games Done Quick will also see speedruns for the following games:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Demon's Souls
Bastion
Mighty Switch Force! Hyperdrive Edition
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Metroid Prime
Catherine
New Super Mario Bros.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
FAST Racing NEO
1080 Avalanche
Tony Hawk's Underground
The Rapid Angel
Crystal's Pony Tale
Edd, Edd, ‘n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Barbie: Game Girl
Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos
The Flintstones: The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak
The Land Before Time
The Incredible Crash Dummies
The Goonies II
Claymates
ActRaiser
Sparkster
Hagane
Skyblazer
Mega Man 8
And that's just for Day 1 of the event!
Summer Games Done Quick will wrap up on July 10 with the games TAS Block, Final Fantasy VI, Super Metroid and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, with speedrunners dwangoAC, bichphuongballz, oatsngoats, sweetnumb, zoast, Behemoth87 and LackAttack24 playing.
In January, Awesome Games Done Quick was able to raise $1.2 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This time, Summer Games Done Quick's beneficiary will be Doctors Without Borders.
Information on how supporters can donate are on the Games Done Quick website and will be made available during the event on their Twitch page. Most donations come in during the speedrunning marathon itself but supporters can also choose to donate in advance.
Donation processing will be carried out through the Games Done Quick website, with all funds directly going to the event's chosen charity via PayPal. This will allow the organizers to track donations so donation incentives and bid wars will be properly documented. Donors can also leave comments, which the organizers will spotlight on the donation ticker found at the front page of Games Done Quick's website.
Those who wish to watch past marathons can check out Games Done Quick's official YouTube page and Archive.org.
