If you weren't aware of Netflix's domination of the entertainment industry just yet, the company's latest move is sure to convince you.
Netflix announced Monday, Sept. 29 that it will stream the sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2000 film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This will be the first original movie Netflix has ever streamed, which will join its host of ever-expanding original content, including TV series, documentaries and stand-up comedy specials. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend (Is it just me, or are there way too many syllables in that title?), will also air in IMAX theaters during its premiere on Aug. 28, 2015. (Though if you're looking to see it at a Regal theater, you're out of luck).
Though this will be Netflix's first original movie, it won't be the first martial arts movie to hit Netflix. There are plenty of movies you will find on the streaming service that will give you all the action, adventure and high-flying kicks your little heart desires. Here are eight of the best martial arts films you can stream on Netflix right now.
1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
You've got loads of time to watch the first Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon before the sequel hits our computer screens next year. The stunning visual effects, choreography and story of Ang Lee's 2000 film about a young woman attempting to break free from her seemingly predestined life make it nothing short of a masterpiece.
2. Kill Bill Vols. 1 and 2 (2003 and 2004)
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and no one proves that more than Uma Thurman's "Bride" in Kill Bill Vols. 1 and 2. And with Quentin Tarrantino giving these films his signature homage to the exploitation style of the 1970s, they're altogether a bloody, good time.
3. The Karate Kid (1984)
Can you believe it's been 30 years since the concept of "Wax on, wax off" was brought into our lives? I can't either. Watch the one that started it all, and get ready to fall in love with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi all over again.
4. Return of the Dragon (1972)
If we're talking about martial arts films, we've got to include Bruce Lee's movies, one of the most famous and influential martial arts performers of all time. Lee's best-known film, 1973's Enter the Dragon, isn't available to stream on Netflix currently. However, you can stream The Big Boss (1971), The Chinese Connection (1972) and The Game of Death (1978). I chose to spotlight 1972's Return of the Dragon here because Lee wrote and directed it himself, and the film also stars Chuck Norris, which is a bonus for us all.
5. Jet Li's Fearless (2006)
Before he became an Expendable, Jet Li was one of the most famous martial arts action stars to appear on the silver screen in recent years. Several of his movies are available on Netflix, but one of the more notable ones is 2006's Jet Li's Fearless, where Li kicks some butt as legendary martial artist Huo Yuanjia.
6. Ip Man (2008)
Ip Man is based on Bruce Lee's real-life mentor Yip Man. Watch this movie, and you'll see why he was known as a master of the Wing Chun style of martial arts.
7. Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (2003)
If you're just looking for some good-old-fashioned fighting, Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior is your jam. Sure, the movie is about the titular kickboxer's quest to find a statue that was stolen from his village, but the movie's greatest asset is its crazy stunts.
