Hasselblad recently announced an important event for June 22 and it might have something to do with a Mod Camera for Motorola smartphones.
The scarce information available hints that the company, which manufactures professional grade cameras, could be gearing up to release a Moto Mod camera for the Moto Z flagships.
The invite to the event features a photo that seems to represent a close up on a camera. Observing the metallic buttons and the flat-looking black sensors leads us to believe that the release features a camera mod. As Hasselblad is known for its top-of-the-line products, the brushed metal finish falls right into place due to its premium aspect.
Keep in mind that the Moto Z series came out recently featuring a slew of modular extensions dubbed Moto Mods. The Moto Insta-Share Projector helps users transform their handset into a projector able to create a 70-inch screen on any flat surface to display photos or videos. The JBL SoundBoost Speaker enhances the audio quality and volume of your Moto Z phone. What is more, the speaker comes with a kickstand that allows a better viewing angle for video watching, while the phone is sitting on a table. The Incipio offGRID Power Pack is targeted towards power users who always run out of battery during an important call. The power pack grants an additional 22 hours of juice to your Moto Z device.
Lenovo loyalists also expected to see a previously rumored Hasselblad Mod, but the add-on was nowhere to be seen.
The Mods use magnets and 16 contact points to attach to the back of the smartphone. This allows users to quickly swap them, according to their needs. Connectivity takes place instantly for both data transfer and power. Additionally, all the ports of the handset remain free for use while the Mods are locked on the phone.
Evan Blass tipped the media about a possible Hasselblad Mod a while ago, but you should take note that the leak was not as premium as the official invite. What was apparent in Blass's leak was that the Mod came with a dedicated shutter button, a full sized flash and something that promised to be an optical zoom-ready camera lens. If the Hasselblad Mod comes to resemble these details, Moto Z owners might have a fully functional digital camera on their hands.
Hasselblad scheduled the event to start on June 22, at 14:00 CET. You can watch the presentation live, on the dedicated YouTube channel.
