As HTC's press event looms near, the company released a teaser video for the upcoming RECamera. Speculations are still flying that the event on Oct. 8 in New York will officially announce the Nexus 9, but it's likely the focus will be on the RECamera given the invite to the event used "Double Exposure" as a tagline.
As for the teaser video, it, well, teases that "Something Remarkable is Coming" by splicing together different shots of what can only be assumed are the RECamera's capabilities. This means underwater use, action shots, slow-motion videos, and time-lapse capabilities, if the video clip is to be believed.
The teaser video also went live on the RECamera website, playing in the background as HTC encourages people to sign up to be notified by email when the camera does become available. The site also features a link to the RECamera's Twitter account for more updates.
Given the preview from the teaser video, HTC appears to be going after the GoPro line of cameras with the RE Camera.
Not much is known about HTC's venture into action cameras but stills taken from the RECamera site by a Reddit user show that the camera is a standalone device that comes with accessories like a mount that will allow users to attach it to a backpack strap.
There was also apparently mention of "RE Moments" on the site, which many expect to be a companion app for the camera for Android devices.
All other features are speculations until the RECamera is officially revealed, but some of the things that could make its way to HTC's newest offering include Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, wireless access, and a 16MP sensor.
HTC's One was warmly received when it came out in 2013 so it was unexpected that the company would still be able to improve upon the then-flagship. Then the One (M8) was unveiled and HTC showed everyone it could be done. While most manufacturers are taking the budget-phone route to increase sales, HTC has refused to budge and veer away from premium devices.
HTC is known for creating products with excellent build quality but lately it's been struggling despite churning out an impressive lineup of smartphones. Competition is just too steep so the company may be looking for other ways to get out of the rut by tapping into a complementing product for their existing offerings. It is hoped the RECamera does bring remarkable things for HTC.
